Industrial
Revolution Project
Objective
Work alone or with a group of students to create a project
that answers the question: how did the Industrial Revolution change
people’s lives at work and at home?
Individual Formats
·
Journal / Letters
o
Write at least four journal entries or short
letters from the perspective of someone living during the Industrial
Revolution. The contents of these
writings will be fictional, but should reveal the actual conditions of people
during this time.
o
Your goal
is to be as realistic and descriptive as possible while establishing this from
the perspective of the character you create.
o
Each journal entry or letter must be at least
200 words long.
·
Character Speech
o
Take on the role of a historical figure from
this time period and give a speech to the class about a topic that meets the
requirements for the project. It might
be a persuasive speech, such as Marx arguing against capitalism. It might be a biographical piece, such as a
13 year old talking about working in a coal mine.
o
Your speech should be between 4 and 6 minutes
long and will be performed in front of the class on the due date. You will also submit a written copy of your
speech.
·
Song
o
Write a song that includes the required
information in its lyrics to teach the class about the Industrial Revolution.
o
Your song must be at least 2 minutes long and
can be performed live or recorded on video and placed on YouTube. You will also submit a written copy of the
lyrics.
·

o
If you have a creative project idea you’d like
to do, talk to Mr. M
Group Formats
·
Video Project
o
Create and record a short skit that demonstrates
the required information. This can be in
any format you would like: a story, a
musical, a news report, a crash-course style lecture or anything else you come
up with.
o
The video should be between five and seven
minutes long.
o
It’s okay if some people are filmed more than
others, but everyone must show up in the video at least once.
o
You will post your video to YouTube or bring it
in on a flash drive; we’ll watch it with the class after it is submitted.
·

to do, talk to Mr. M
Topics
Include at least 2-3 of the following major thematic topics in your project. This isn’t merely a checklist. The more historical detail you include for each topic the better your grade will be. Simply name-dropping different items on this list without putting them in a useful context will not result in a successful project.
